Clemson vs. Virginia score: Live game updates, college football scores, NCAA highlights, full coverage

No. 1 Clemson is letting Virginia hang around and make this Saturday night ACC showcase more interesting than anyone imagined, holding onto a 24-10 lead at halftime in Death Valley.

The Tigers dominated the game early on with defense that prevented Virginia from getting into any kind of rhythm and allowed Travis Etienne (10 carries for 54 rushing yards and a touchdown, two catches for 37 receiving yards) to carry the weight offensively. Trevor Lawrence played well, completing 15 of 23 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns, but the offense as a whole was inconsistent with its effort and faced too many third-and-long situations to feel like it ever established an edge against the Virginia defense.

“We didn’t challenge them at the line of scrimmage,” Dabo Swinney told the ACC Network heading into the locker room. “We didn’t play the way we’re capable of playing at the end of the first half. Not doing a good job on first down defensively … offensively, too many miscues. We’ve got to play a lot better.”

Virginia got in a late touchdown to cut the lead to 14, so you can expect it will come out of the locker room with a lot of confidence. It’s been an aggressive showing from the four-touchdown underdogs so far, and there’s no reason to think Bronco Mendenhall has the kind of team that will let up from its effort to come back and shock the world.
